As we enter campaigning for the Seaford Town Council East Ward by-election on 6th July I wonder if the following plea will fall on deaf ears:
- Please – keep the campaigns clean and factual
- Please – do not grab glory for something you did not instigate or partake in – be honest about the level of your involvement, it will not help your campaign if mis-information has to be pointed out publicly
- Please - do not harass or intimidate other candidates, it is not big or clever and certainly not becoming to someone wishing to be an elected member of the Council. Especially if aspiring to vacant higher positions
- Please - do not stoop to the national party ethos of “it’s all part of the rough and tumble of politics”
Remember your electorate will have more respect if you are truthful, honest, transparent and behave with dignity. From experience it is very hard to keep your dignity when all about you untruths are told, a simple link or posting of evidence debunking claims should be sufficient, and will be utilised.
Break the mould Seaford Candidates and show that local elections can be run fairly and with integrity.
Seaford Residents if you hear rumours about a candidate do ask them if they are true!
Spoken and publicised chinese whispers can cause a lot of damage and upset for candidates and in most instances can be proven false if candidates are given the chance to do so.
It is against Electoral Commission Rules to • Knowingly make a false statement about the personal character of another candidate. • Pay canvassers. Canvassing means trying to persuade an elector to vote for or against a particular candidate or party. This includes offers of services or reward.
Good Luck to all
